Integrated, coach-led adaptive training at the AMVETS Hawai'i Human Performance Center. Wheelchair athletes, amputees, TBI, PTSD, neurodivergent athletes — every body trains here, together.

Most programs put adaptive athletes in a separate room, a separate hour, a separate world. We think that's backwards. At BTB, a wheelchair athlete and a first-timer and a DEKA competitor run the same circuit at the same time — each with their own scaling, all on the same team.
It started when a wheelchair athlete rolled onto our field and said, "I just want to train." We figured it out. Years later, that conversation is our DNA: we don't have an adaptive class — we have adaptive coaching in every class.
Same field. Same team. Your version of every rep.
Eight of the most common situations we coach — and if yours isn't listed, that's not a no. It just means we haven't met you yet.
Full-session training — pushes, pulls, presses, carries, and yes, the tire — programmed for chair athletes in every class.
Load, balance, and movement patterns adapted to your body, with equipment adjustments coached station by station.
Structured, repeatable movement with coaching cues that meet you where your recovery is today.
Outdoor training, routine, and a team that has your back — the structure and brotherhood that gyms can't fake.
Autism, ADHD, and sensory differences — predictable session structure with coaches who adapt communication, not just movement.
Graded, coached exposure that rebuilds confidence in your body — moving more, guarded less.
Haven't trained in years — or ever? Every station has a floor as well as a ceiling. We start where you are.
Strength, balance, and power work that protects independence — training alongside your community, not apart from it.
Assess · Adapt · Integrate · Progress — the same loop our whole Human Performance Center runs on.
Your first session starts with a free 1:1 movement assessment — what works, what hurts, what's possible, and what you want back.
Every station in every session gets your version: modified range, load, position, or equipment. The workout bends to you — never the reverse.
You train in the main group from day one. Same circuit, same coaches, same team — because belonging is half the medicine.
Tanita body-composition scans and functional benchmarks track your gains over time. Progress you can see, measure, and build on.
The unknown is the hardest part — so here's exactly what happens.
Park adjacent to the field at AMVETS (behind the basketball courts). A coach meets you — you'll never stand around wondering what to do.
We talk goals, history, and equipment, then watch how you move. Bring whatever you use — chair, prosthetic, cane. Everything is welcome.
Ten stations, your adaptations at every one. Coaches rotate to you throughout. Push where you can, scale where you need.
Every session ends together — the big tire, the huddle, the Coaches Corner. From your first day, you're part of it.
Sessions: Tue / Wed / Thu 5:30 PM · Sat 6:00 AM — 5001 Iroquois Ave, Ewa Beach, HI 96706
Training here is a launchpad. When you're ready for more, Hawai'i's adaptive sports world is waiting — and we'll train you toward it.
We're Oahu's first and only DEKA affiliate — functional fitness benchmarks with adaptive divisions. Real numbers, real finish lines.
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games, Golden Age Games, Winter Sports Clinic — tell us the event and we'll aim your training at it.
From adaptive surfing to paddling, Oahu has a thriving adaptive sports scene — we're proud to be its land-side strength and conditioning home.
Caregivers train beside their athlete at no charge. Families train together in the same session — many of our adaptive athletes work out next to their kids and spouses. You don't drop your person off here; you join them.
Family Fitness ProgramWe work alongside VA recreation therapy as a no-cost community training resource — and referring takes 60 seconds, no paperwork. Our VA Partner Hub has the full pathway for physicians, nurses, and rec therapists, plus site-visit invitations for your team.
VA Partner HubYour intake movement assessment is free, veterans and active duty always train free, and every new athlete gets a free 7-day pass. Beyond that, we actively work with families to remove cost as a barrier — money should never be the reason someone doesn't train. Call us and we'll figure it out together.
Wheelchair users, amputees and limb difference, TBI, stroke recovery, PTSD, neurodivergent athletes (including autism and ADHD), chronic pain, MS and neurological conditions, and older adults rebuilding strength. And honestly: all of them. If a coach hasn't seen your situation yet, we'll learn it together — that's a promise we've kept since day one.
No — and this is the heart of our program. You train in the main session with everyone else, with your own individualized scaling at every station. Integration is the medicine: same field, same team, same finish-line tire flip.
We train outdoors on level grass at the West Oahu Veterans Center (AMVETS) with parking adjacent to the field. Wheelchair athletes train in every session. Have a specific access question? Call (808) 808-6337 and we'll walk the site with you before you commit.
Please bring them. Caregivers are welcome at your side at no charge, and families can train together in the same session — many of our adaptive athletes train right next to their kids or spouse. It's a family program at its core.
Water, a towel, sun protection, and whatever equipment you already use (chair, prosthetic, cane — everything is welcome on the field). We provide all training equipment. Arrive 15 minutes early and a coach will meet you at the field.
Intensity is a dial, not a requirement. Your first session starts with a movement assessment, and every single station scales to where you are today. Our coaches' favorite athletes are the ones starting from zero — that's where the biggest wins live.
Yes — we operate as the AMVETS Hawai'i Human Performance Center and work alongside VA recreation therapy as a community training resource. VA clinicians and rec therapists can refer directly (no paperwork needed) — see our VA Partner Hub for the 60-second referral pathway.
Free intake assessment. Free first week. Veterans free forever. The only thing we need from you is showing up.
