How To Engage

Pick your seat — the pathway is tailored to how you work.

A community exercise resource you can hand a veteran today

  • Structured, coach-led group exercise — a concrete next step after 'you should be more active.'
  • Every movement scales to ability: wheelchair users, amputees, TBI, PTSD, chronic pain, deconditioning.
  • Zero cost barrier — veterans and active duty always train free. No insurance, no authorization.
  • Measurable: Tanita body-composition scans and functional benchmarks you can ask the veteran about at follow-up.
1

Tell the veteran

"There's a free, veteran-led outdoor fitness program at AMVETS in Ewa Beach — every exercise adapts to you." Hand them this page or the phone number below.

2

Warm handoff (best)

With the veteran's consent, call us at (808) 808-6337 — 24/7 — or have them call from your office. First names and a phone number are all we need. Please don't send medical records or PHI by email.

3

We take it from there

A coach welcomes them, runs a movement assessment at their first session, and scales everything to their ability. No paperwork required from you.

Refer in 60 seconds

0/5

That's genuinely all it takes. No forms, no fax, no consult template — the field is the intake.

The Referral Line

The Bigger Picture

Where We Fit In The VA Ecosystem

We're a community complement to VA Recreation Therapy — these official VA resources pair naturally with training at BTB.

Training toward something? Our functional programming builds naturally toward VA national events like the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and Golden Age Games — tell us the event and we'll aim the training at it.
Straight Answers

Partner FAQ

Q:What does a referral cost the veteran?

Nothing — ever. Veterans and active duty train free with ID as a permanent policy of the AMVETS Hawai'i Human Performance Center. Family members can be added for $59/mo, and every new civilian participant gets a free 7-day pass.

Q:Do you need VA paperwork, a consult, or an authorization?

No. We're a community program — a veteran can walk on the field today. For clinician referrals, a warm handoff by phone with the veteran's consent is ideal. Please don't send medical records or PHI in writing; the veteran can tell us what we need to know.

Q:What conditions and abilities can you adapt for?

Wheelchair users, amputees, limb difference, TBI, PTSD, stroke recovery, neurodivergent athletes, chronic pain, severe deconditioning, and older adults. Every station in every session scales — and if a coach hasn't seen it yet, we'll learn together. If something is outside our scope, we'll say so and help find the right resource.

Q:Is this a replacement for VA Recreation Therapy?

No — we're the community complement. VA recreation therapists provide clinical treatment; we provide the ongoing, no-cost community training environment that keeps functional gains alive between and after clinical care.

Q:Is the site actually accessible?

We train outdoors on level grass at the West Oahu Veterans Center (AMVETS) with parking adjacent to the field. Wheelchair athletes train in every session. If you have a specific access question, call (808) 808-6337 and we'll walk the site with you.

Q:What about liability and supervision?

Every session is led by certified coaches (NASM, adaptive fitness, Spartan DEKA), every participant completes our standard waiver at their first session, and we carry the insurance appropriate to our programs. Clinical teams are welcome to observe any session.

Q:Our rec therapist is leaving — does the partnership continue?

Yes. This page exists exactly so the partnership never depends on one person. The referral pathway is the program's, not an individual's: (808) 808-6337 and info@bigtirebootcamp.com reach us 24/7, and any VA staff member can refer or visit at any time.

The First-Session Challenge

Send Us One Veteran.

That's the whole challenge. One warm handoff, one session, and let the field make the argument. If it's not the right fit, we'll help find what is — that's a promise from one veteran-serving organization to another.
